On Becoming a Better Man, Human, and Father

In the moment (lessons from my daughters)

I

Perhaps I need to be more in the moment. Committed.

While watching Fe eat a peach today I became mesmerized by her passion for the peach. Although this may seem like an exaggeration, I promise it isn’t.

She had begged me to let her eat it in the car on the way here but told her she needed to wash them first.

As soon as we arrived home, she washed one of the peaches and began her moment.

I realized in that moment that nothing else mattered.

She was devouring the peach and enjoying the rich sweet flavor.

I can’t recall the last time I was ever this engaged with anything, much less a piece of fruit. I initially told her to chill out… it’s just a peach. But then I shut myself up and simply sat there and watched her.

Although this may seem mundane, I promise that to her it was far from mundane. It was the only thing that mattered.
