From Awkward Intros to Lasting Friendships: My Meetup Journey

F

I joined Meetup 18 years ago before I even jumped on Facebook.

It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.

I was determined to improve my life. One activity and skill at a time. I joined everything: dance groups, networking events, improv nights, writing circles, journalism meetups, marketing hangouts—you name it.

If I was curious about something, I’d check Meetup first.
Then I’d hop in my car, try not to look too clueless, and just show up.

And you know what?

From all those awkward intros and brave little leaps, I built dozens of friendships that are still going strong today.

So thank you, Meetup.

You don’t get nearly enough credit for the magic you spark in the real world.

And thank you to all the beautiful humans I met along the way. You gave me the space to learn how to socialize and become comfortable evolving.

There are too many of you to name, please let me know what group we met in. 😉
