I wrote this poem in 2008 and sent it to myself. I discovered it on May 2nd, 2023. How appropriate given that my girls are grown and about to fly away.
A Facebook friend messaged me and said, "I have never heard you speak poorly of their mother."
"You're quite astute," I replied. As a rule, I never speak badly about my ex-wife (or any ex).
I chose her.
My ex-girlfriend upgraded after me. I'm sure all my exes upgraded.
At least, I hope they did. I hope they found the love and companionship that they were looking for and upgraded.
One of the biggest lessons I am working to impart on the girls during the summer (because they are getting older and they are beginning to be confronted with it) is to always be aware that “haters”/critics and fans will always be in the room.
“No freedom ’til were equal. Damn Right I support it!”
“No law is going to change us. We have to change us”
