“I would die for my kids.” -Dads
Yea, but will you live for them is the ultimate question. Dads will break their backs to provide. My dad would complain and remind us how hard he was working. As a father, I get it. We want to give our children opportunities that we didn’t have.
Thanks, dad.
But that doesn’t mean you don’t take care of yourself. You know that you need to maintain your car to keep it running well for years to come. Change the oil every 3,000 miles. Change the transmission fluid every 3-6K miles. Rotate tires every 6-8K miles.
Dads seem to forget that the body is also a machine that needs regular maintenance.
“I can eat what I want and drink what I want.” My father said this often.
His body eventually broke down, and he had a stroke. He survived, but now he’s a shell of the man he once was. A close friend told me that his father had a stroke recently. His story is almost identical to mine and my father’s.
He refused to take care of himself.
I’m not suggesting you run marathons. But go for a fucking walk regularly. Drink more water, visit your doctor, and follow their damn instructions.
You say you will die for your kids. Do better and live for them.
Otherwise, you will be a burden to the family. All those years of work and now you made their life more difficult. The weight will be felt emotionally and financially. But worse yet- the relationships amongst each other will be stretched and broken.
Dads, go to the doctor and get your maintenance done. Do better.
