Shortly after my divorce, I moved back into my old room in my parents' garage—a space we never used for parking cars.
It was a hit to my ego to have to come back. But I was pretty broke and desperate, and my parents were sorta cool to the idea. I knew they would make it emotionally challenging, but that’s the price I had to pay, plus rent.
I’m in the absolute best shape of my life.
It’s an obnoxious thing to say, but hey, it’s true. Every morning, my reflection in the mirror brings a double-take. First, it’s “Whoa, that’s me!” and then, “I’d tap that.”
The difference was immediate.
As I opened the door to our cabin, silence enveloped me, broken only by the sound of leaves rustling in the wind.
Surprisingly, neither my baby girl nor I shed a tear when the time came to leave her at college.
Despite being a confident man who's never been ashamed to express my emotions, and despite my daughter's ability to cry with the best of them, no tears flowed that day.
